This concert highlights some of the most innovative female American composers. Joan Tower’s “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman” is a work that celebrates strength and independence, while Jessie Montgomery’s “Coincident Dances” explores rhythmic patterns and musical contrasts.
In Jennifer Higdon’s Tuba Concerto, the tuba shines as a soloist, with both humor and virtuosity. After the interval, we hear the first symphony composed by an American woman: Amy Beach’s “Gaelic Symphony”, a romantic symphony characterized by melodic power and national character.
Conductor: Molly Turner
 Soloist: August Schieldrop (tuba)
Joan Tower: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman (1987)
 Jessie Montgomery: Coincident Dances (2017)
 Jennifer Higdon: Tuba Concert (2018)
 Amy Beach: Gaelic Symphony (1896)
