 DAVID CHESKY American Bluegrass
 BRAHMS Piano Concerto No. 2
In a tongue-in-cheek quip, Brahms described his Second Piano Concerto as “a tiny, tiny pianoforte
concerto, with a tiny, tiny wisp of a scherzo.” Approaching the dimensions of a symphony, full of
nobility and brilliance, the monstrously difficult work will be performed by the world-renowned Austrian pianist, Rudolf Buchbinder.
The rest of this program highlights uniquely American artistry and composition, beginning with the world
premiere of a new orchestral work by Leonard Bernstein Award-winning composer, violinist and educator, Jessie Montgomery. Then, traditional American musical genres are blended with classical orchestral stylings in Antheil’s bold and complex A Jazz Symphony and Chesky’s ode to Americana and folk, American Bluegrass.
